Juco Prospect Tyrone Appleton’s Stock is on the Rise!

UK has been desperatly trying to add a big man and a point guard to round out its 2008 recruiting class. With only about a dozen remainig unsigned players from the rivals 150, means that juco and post graduate players are looking more appealing by the day. I like the fact that the staff is at least giving a few juco players a look. A three star juco kid usually produces more than your average three star freshman.

“Appleton spent his junior year at Roosevelt High School in Gary, Ind., and his senior year (2004-05) on the postgraduate team at Bridgton Academy in Maine. Bridgton coach Whit Lesure said Appleton didn’t graduate from Bridgton because he was short on credits. He said Appleton had decided in the spring of 2005 to become a fifth-year senior. He didn’t have the ACT score he needed when he left Bridgton.Appleton was a fifth-year senior at Harmony Community School in Cincinnati, averaging 19.5 points last season. He signed with Tech in April”   http://www.roanoke.com/sports/vtbasketball/wb/wb/xp-79190

Tech head coach Seth Greenberg: “Tyrone Appleton is the kind of fierce competitor you need to be successful in the ACC. He has the size of a two-guard and the skill of a point guard. He has a toughness about him and brings every intangible you need to compete at the highest level. We’re excited he has decided to join us and help us to continue to build Virginia Tech basketball.”
As of now this kid has a huge list os schools and he has just added Oregon and Texas to the list. Gillispie and his staff are at least going to sign 1 JUCO player in my opinion.
