As you may or may not know, Dakotah Euton was ruled ineligible to play for Scott County. Fellow Rose Hill teammate Chad Jackson was ruled eligible. I don’t understand the KHSAA ruling? However, it does seem that the KHSAA is trying to cut down on the recent migration of talent to Scott County.
Scott County, has had numerous players transfers to their program. Bud Mackey is one of those kids. Mackey transferred from southern Ohio and played immediately. The Euton family had to close their business and relocate. Dakotah had said that he wanted to be closer to Lexington. Ultimately the Euton family decided on Scott county because, it’s proximity to Rupp Arena and MR. Euton’s new job. This ruling baffles me? I do know that Dakotah should easily win his appeal, Jackson’s case is still a mystery to me? Here is the section of the bylaw that most likely applies to the ruling.
a) BONA FIDE CHANGE IN RESIDENCE – If there has been a bona fi de change in residence by the parents and student that precedes a student’s change of schools. For purposes of this bylaw, a bonafi de change of residence means the moving permanent residence of the entire family of the student and his/her parents from one school district or defi ned school attendance area into another school district or defi ned school attendance area prior to a change in enrollment of thestudent. A student who becomes emancipated does not have a bona fi de change of residence by virtue of his/her emancipation and change of residence for purposes of this bylaw.
On a brighter note: There has been a UK player on the roster of the last 4 NBA champions
- Detroit Pistons- T.Prince
- Miami Heat-A.Walker
- San Antonio Spurs- N. Mohammed
- Boston Celtics- Rajon Rondo
No other program has had a player on all of the last 4 teams.
